Website

The website is finished!I created some of the remaining webpages and their databases. I also did some small touch-ups on the existing planet designs so that they blend in with the pages and posters better. These were minor changes like a little shading and color dodging here and there. Database integration works. If you give us feedback on the planet/institution you liked, that data will be saved to our database.

New attraction mode

Andrei made a cool artwork where he took the map of Enschede and made a galaxy from it.
I implemented it in the Interface as an attraction mode before you use the machine.
I took some layers apart so when it moves it looks really cool and dynamic. This illustrates the vast galaxy of Enschede and when you’re going to play with our installation, you’re going to explore some of the planets inside this amazing galaxy.

Database and Website creation

Yesterday I started on the website and experimenting with databasing. The website was easily made through wix, getting 8 pages like I want it is gonna take some time but it is very doable. Today I struggled with Firebase, a program to connect databases to applications or websites. After a while I started to check if there are no easier ways to implement one. Since Firebase and Wix weren’t getting along that well (I basically didn’t understand Firebase well enough yet). Then I discovered Wix has built in databasing software. I quickly learned how to utilize it and it now works properly. All that is left now is make 6 more databases and webpages. One for each planet.

The last feedback from our Product Owner

Today we had to present all our prototype connected together to Boris and Harry. They tested our “installation” and we got feedback from them.

Feedback:

  • Have dots on the pads to point where to hit
  • Have it possible to stop (a button)
  • Have buttons give feedback by lighting up when we explain them
  • Have a sound file that explains the looping – make better instructions
  • Fix the latency of the drum pads
  • Arduino Leonardo???
  • Preloading sounds
  • Make the buttons more understandable
  • Make it more clear for the user what to do

We got the green light. ✅

We have shared tasks and we will work on it!

Technical parts of the installation

I’ve changed a lot in the technical parts of the installation.
Now Arduino communicates directly with Unity and we don’t need Processing anymore. I also think that thanks to this pads work better (I wrote a new script in Arduino) and the delay is lower.
I added separate scenes for each planet (previously the project had one scene and Panel, in which there was a vector of colors for each planet and changed the set of sounds). Now there are 7 scenes with planets, we already have most textures and main functions. I want to improve everything now and adapt to today’s feedback from Boris and Harry. I also added videos to the start and end of the game. I made the planets rotate. I changed most of them to fit the dome and projection.

Wiring the drumpads

For the drumpads to fit on the installation I had to make the wires longer so I did.
I don’t have any pictures of this but I stripped the previous wires and soldered a longer wire to the piezos. I kept them together with painting-tape.
I also helped Iza today with the technical part. Implementing the videos and resizing the planets.
