Client presentation

On monday 20th may we had to present our concept to our clients in a 5 minutes pitch. Thom did a really good job sharing our idea and they ended up liking it, giving us valuable feedback in return.

One of the things they said is that we have to find a better solution so that our installation gives value to the city of Enschede. We explained that in our vision each planet represents a different important location in Enschede. They gave us a better alternative which is to tie our idea to music centers( music schools, orchestras etc) around Enschede.

New tasks and responsibilities

Today we all met to talk about what we have to do in the near future and to assign tasks to us.
We put all the tasks on vivifyscrum on our board so that we can remember everything and let everything be clear. We also assigned points and shared responsibilities.

This is how our board looks like:

We talked about the concepts with the consult teachers, who were excited about our concept. They gave us also feedback about stuff were we have to think about, or tips too look at.

We also had a Guest  Lecture with Heinze Havinga & Mark Melenhorst.

We get important information and inspiration on how to measure the value of our experience.

I think that these meetings were beneficial, helped us a little, they led us in the right direction and inspired us. Then we had the opportunity to ask questions to the student in the third year. I think it was helpful for us.

Feedback Demo Sprint 1

Today we had a Demo from Sprint 1 for our product owner Boris Slaghuis.

In the presentation we told everyone about how we came to this concept, we also showed our other ideas. We told about our struggles at the beginning with the other concepts, which were not good enough.

We also showed our location and our idea which is associated with the store we work with. After that we showed our final concept: Planet of Sound

We agreed with the teachers that we are a little bit behind on the schedule. We were also aware of that. So we are going to try to make retrieval in the next sprint.

Teachers feedback:

  • no target group yet
  • we need to focus more on the promotion of the city, not on the store
  • show everything you got, because you get graded on that

Research & analysis: needs more to justify decisions and choose technology

Conteptualising: Need to work more on the sound for the places and how they help promote the city of Enschede

Design and realization: Need more work, focus on the usability and remember who the client is.

We also need to work on Responsibility, Design & Prototyping and Technical Knowledge & Analysis.

This presentation and opinions received after it is something we can work on for the next weeks.  It is going to be a lot of work, but it has to be done.

Conclusion is, for the first sprint, that we didn’t did it that bad. We had some delay, but at least we have a concept now where we can work further on. We have to do some more and better research about it (like in the feedback) so we can convince people more about how good our product will be. We must also remember about the promotion of the city and the target group.

Conceptual process

For me, as a film student, there is a lot of new territory for me here. I’m used to working on short docs and fiction films, but working on a tech project is a new experience. The similar things are the iteration process where we come up with ideas and constantly make changes to find what will work. What’s different is working with technology I have no previous experience with. So here is a lot of ground for learning. I have to trust my teammates on what tech we can work with.

In this conceptual phase I’ve been trying to come with input based on what I’ve learned about interactions and how I think users will experience the interaction.

Izabella and I worked on the moodboard. This is something I know how to do. We got feedback from the other group members and changed a couple of things so everyone was happy with it.

FAT concept second consultation

Today we had a consultation meeting with Kasper and Herman.

They said that our idea is interesting and with a lot of potential but we have to focus more on what the users can get out of it as an experience. What value do we bring to the user and Enschede at the same time.

Feedback:

There are many people who don’t know anything about music or rythm. Yet despite that we still have to offer them an enjoyable experience from which they can learn something about the city or make them interact further with the city.

They said we could work with history concepts, different periods have different sounds and moods.

Another suggestion was to search for music artists from Enschede and promote them along side the city.

Because our art installation is partnered with Planet Of Sound, we can link them to products sold there after the experience. Making the user buy LP’s that he might enjoy etc.

Lastly we have to work on creating a story that the user can follow. The experience should feel satisfying and not just sound good.

At the last part Kasper showed us an interesting video showing us ways to visualize rythm. This falls really well into our solar system/ space theme that we’re going for.

Brainstorming – new concept

Today was another brainstorming and consultations with Remco.

After the feedback we received from teachers yesterday, we decided to change our idea a bit. We changed the main part with a hologram and planets.

Instead of displaying the entire planetary system, one planet will be displayed. The new idea is more musically and visually connected to each other.

This is how the sketch of our new installation looks like:concept

Starter Concepts

PLANET OF SOUND

  • Music Mixer

Let users mix, combine and change sounds in different ways

Create an user friendly installation for sound manipulation and control

Promoting Enschede
We Intend to position our installation in front of Planet of Sound. In order to preserve coherency with the theme of the shop, we want to use 360° shots in the “planets” format.

The “planets” will be shots of famous, important and interesting places around Enschede.

GODZILLA DESTRUCTION

Using Google’s photogrammetry of Enschede to promote the important, interesting and visit worthy locations. The Player will be destroying the most important buildings in town and score points while also receiving information on what they destroyed. For example if the player destroys a church, they get a pop up explaining the history of the building and score higher if the building is important.

VR DREAMLAND CONCEPT

Bedshop De Duif is a store selling beds & mattresses in the Haverstraatpassage. An idea we came up with just passing by, was a marketing campaign for the store.
Make a VR dream experience, in Enschede transformed into a dreamland. That way we would be able to promote both the bed store and Enschede.
