Buildplan

It was my job as the main builder to make the plan for the build, as elaborate and detailed as possible.

  • I included a parts list (the estimated materials and parts we would need to complete the build of the installation) .
  • I made a checklist of the stages we needed to complete for the build.
  • Drawings and sketches of the parts.
  • Estimated measurements (width, height, dome measurements etc.)

Feedback Demo Sprint 3

Today we had a Demo from Sprint 3 for our product owner Boris Slaghuis.

We showed our building, prototypes of installations and software in the presentation.

WhatsApp Image 2019-06-17 at 14.25.30.jpeg

Teachers feedback:

  • no target group and sponsors yet
  • we have to do more technical things
  • we must already have a working prototype

Research & analysis: Still need to work on a prototype and present it better

Conceptualizing: Still unknown some basic aspects

Design & Prototyping:   Need a working prototype

Design & Realization: No products yet

Testing & Implementation: Don’t have a product (initial prototype) yet

Technical Knowledge & Analysis: Not yet implemented in a working prototype

Entrepreneurial Skills: Still without a target group and sponsors

I think the assessment of our work is due to the fact that we didn’t present everything during the presentation. We should say and show more next time.

Software Prototype

I made a software prototype. This isn’t ready software, but I will work on it further if I make sure that it is the right way and the simple functions work well with the hardware.

I also did research about what I can use and how to connect software and hardware. And what functions to use, I also looked for similar projects on the internet.

I work in Unity, because we found a plugin that allows communication between Unity and Arduino.
Uduino is a Unity plugin for simplifying communication between Arduino and Unity, but it is a paid plugin.

We also found Ardunity, it is a free plugin and we are testing it now.

Storytelling

I got assigned the storytelling because I couldn’t do much else with my neck injury.
I made 3 possible concept stories.

  • You have to destroy the 7 seals to start the apocalypse and release the 4 horseman.

You destroy the 7 seals by making a song by using either all 7 planets or make 7 different loops. This is inspired by revelations in the bible.

  • The only thing that can protect the kingdom of man against the terrible dangers of the universe is the musical barriers created by the 7 planets of sound

The human race is weak and needs protection from the vast and endless universe out there. An ancient race called the celestials created 7 planets of sound for this purpose.

  • The united 7 planets of mankind are an established force in hte universe. But to become a more dominant power they must be renowned by others. The only way to do this is the Universion Song Festival.

The 7 united planets of mankind audition for the Universion Song Festival. It is up to the player to win this festival by playing music.

After some discussion and rewriting with Oyvind we went with the second story. Only a slightly different version:

The universe. An endless expanding space full of chaos and danger. Amidst the chaos arose the kingdom of man. These humans will one day be a great and prosperous power within the universe. But as of now they are still young and weak unable to combat the ever-expanding universe. Fearing the promising humans might perish an ancient race of sentient beings created 7 planets. These 7 planets of sound would fill the void of space with sound, protecting the kingdom of man against the vast expanding nothingness. The 7 planets would make music to illuminate the darkness and fill the void. You are the conductor of these seven planets. It is up to you to create this music and save mankind from an otherwise inevitable doom.

We went with this story because you are the protagonist and there is a clear threat/antagonist. It is also a classic good vs evil storyline, which always works.

Getting and connecting Piezo sensors

Two days ago I ordered 4 Piezo sensors, they arrived yesterday.
I tested them in firmata, and the results were positive. I got some help connecting the piezo sensors to the thing with the 3 holes by putting a 10K resistor in them. Now they all 4 work at the same time.
I also soldered them to longer cables for testing purposes.
The effectiveness of the Piezo’s really depends on what kind of material/surface you stick them. I will try to find the best possible solution for that but the proof of concept is here.
I also found a free program for connecting the arduino to unity, I still need to test that.
Next up is buying three buttons and connecting the controller to the software prototype.

Paint Dome #2

We mixed the paint with water so it would spray out of the nozzle of the spray bottle,
however it took a lot of time to dry.

The next day I came back to put spray another layer of paint on the dome.

It took a few hours to dry, and I sprayed another layer of gouache paint.

There were a few runs along the sides of the dome but nothing scary.

Paint Dome #1

After we got the dome Jay-Cee Brought Gouache paint, Andrei painted the dome and we tested the  projection. After we had a proof of concept, I decided that spraying the dome would be the best way to get good coverage. There was nothing to spray the guache paint with, we didn’t have an airbrush, so I went home and brought a handspray bottle that would create a fine mist to cover the inside of the dome with.

The idea was that the small droplets would stick to the surface without running down the walls of the dome and when dried I would spray more layers on top that would stick to the already dried droplets on the dome.

So I started spraying:
