Today we filmed bits for the second marketing video in front of a green screen. It was hot and sweaty but the performance was good enough. Now we must edit it in to the animation I made earlier and hopefully its looks good.

Yesterday I made a conceptional promo video for the shorter videos. Some of the material used is copywrited, but will be replaced with illustrations by Thom. This is a part of the second marketing strategy in our marketing plan. WordPress doesn’t allow me to upload the video.
Today I’m working on another concept video that will be animated by Thom.

Today we had a Demo from Sprint 3 for our product owner Boris Slaghuis.
We showed our building, prototypes of installations and software in the presentation.

Research & analysis: Still need to work on a prototype and present it better
Conceptualizing: Still unknown some basic aspects
Design & Prototyping: Need a working prototype
Design & Realization: No products yet
Testing & Implementation: Don’t have a product (initial prototype) yet
Technical Knowledge & Analysis: Not yet implemented in a working prototype
Entrepreneurial Skills: Still without a target group and sponsors
I think the assessment of our work is due to the fact that we didn’t present everything during the presentation. We should say and show more next time.

I got assigned the storytelling because I couldn’t do much else with my neck injury.
I made 3 possible concept stories.
You destroy the 7 seals by making a song by using either all 7 planets or make 7 different loops. This is inspired by revelations in the bible.
The human race is weak and needs protection from the vast and endless universe out there. An ancient race called the celestials created 7 planets of sound for this purpose.
The 7 united planets of mankind audition for the Universion Song Festival. It is up to the player to win this festival by playing music.
After some discussion and rewriting with Oyvind we went with the second story. Only a slightly different version:
The universe. An endless expanding space full of chaos and danger. Amidst the chaos arose the kingdom of man. These humans will one day be a great and prosperous power within the universe. But as of now they are still young and weak unable to combat the ever-expanding universe. Fearing the promising humans might perish an ancient race of sentient beings created 7 planets. These 7 planets of sound would fill the void of space with sound, protecting the kingdom of man against the vast expanding nothingness. The 7 planets would make music to illuminate the darkness and fill the void. You are the conductor of these seven planets. It is up to you to create this music and save mankind from an otherwise inevitable doom.
We went with this story because you are the protagonist and there is a clear threat/antagonist. It is also a classic good vs evil storyline, which always works.
Today we started testing and thinking about what to use to make the dome duller and not to diffuse light.
The first thing we tried was gouache. We painted the dome with it from the outside, not very carefully just to see if it could work.
In the coming days, we plan to do it inside the dome, using other techniques.
We also tried to use the projector and see how this technique works. We think it’s okay

We got some feedback from the 3D Herman, Margit en Remco.
This is what they’ve said:
Have a backstory ready. This is who we are.
Right now we are a hollow shell!
Turn that around. Get some filling.
Make some content. Make it an actual story.
Pinball machine is based on a backstory.
What the sauce. It makes it more appealing.
Whats the purpose.
Main character. There need to be conflict.
The entire story doesn’t need to be shown at the installation, but we’lll give the planets value with
Projection:
Pre distors the image to re distord them
Checkerboard pattern, How much of the checkerboard is distorted?
More content, and play with the content.
Planet design:
We don’t want the basketball. Make a cool planet.
It’s too simple. Think a lot about it.
Focus next sprint on storytelling content and campaigning.
Make the planets more visual.

I’ve been doing research on marketing on social media. The source I’ve used are documentation from an online marketing course I took some time ago from Shaw Academy. I’ve also looked at how to choose and narrow in on a target group on Facebook and reading on their pages on how to use it.
I’m making a list of ideas for possible marketing strategies.
We’re going to use the information of the target audience from the client and try to close in on that audience on Facebook. We will also narrow in based on activities like traveling and have interacted with pages linked to Enschede. This way I think we will get to the people who will travel to Enschede from the areas that are specified by the client.

We also made a lot of progress in the building plan. We all as a group talked about the construction and how it it would be built. Here are some of the sketches.

I refined the rough design sketches, I went with a design with the asteroid belt on seperate supports. But we went with the second design, the ring attached to the installation because of the building method we chose today. We chose to build the installation with a sturdy wooden ‘box’ in the middle. Then wrap around it with a very thin MDF sheet of wood and directly attach the asteroid belt to it with PVC piping. So the asteroid belt is now attached directly to the structure with no empty space in between. The layering would look like this from above:

We added a timing bar to the paper prototype to indicate the time you have left to make your loop. We got some useful feedback from Linde about the interaction and the play button. This button might be redundant and we might switch to one loop button instead of a record and play button.
The most important things who came forward with our retrospection were:
What went well?
What could go better?
What do we want to change?
How are we going to achieve it?
Here are some photos of the retrospection:
