Dome Projection Distance

Today we tested what distance and which beamer we should actually use now that we have the exact length of our installation. This proved difficult however because the beamer itself takes up space and it’s relatively close to the dome itself. The image is too small to cover the whole dome, let alone cover more than the dome.

An easy solution would be a wide angle lens beamer. But we can’t borrow one, and sure as hell can’t afford one. We will have to figure out a plan to get the image the right size, with either mirrors or a special lens in front of the beamer. Or get a different beamer through a miracle.

Finances

Today I have been busy with the finances, updating the expenses list. We are most definitely going to go over our 100 euro budget. Which means the investment percentage of each team member will have to be measured to divide it evenly. The actual maths will have to be done once everything is bought. I also made sure the invoices reached our sponsors:

Database Discussion

For our installation we need a database system. It would be most useful if we could integrate it with the marketing for our sponsors.

There are 3 options:

  • We keep a database with songs made by the users. They will be able to download their song through a QR code.
  • We put QR codes on some posters (a poster for each institution), they get some information on the institution and they give us some feedback on who they are and why they like the chosen ‘planet’. We save this information in the database
  • We remember what planet was their ‘favorite’. The user will get the QR code for their favorite planet at the end of the ‘play’ stage. Now they get some info and they give us theirs etc.

 

We can also do a combination of 2 of these or do all 3. Downloading your song might be difficult to achieve with unity and all. But we will try it, if this doesn’t work, we will use one of the other two. If it does, then we shall use either this option or a combination.

We already have the designs for the planets so creating posters for them should not be too difficult. We will start making those soon, the building on the database will start this weekend/next week.

Drum Pad Testing 2.0

Today we tested the piezo sensors with the acquired materials and the drumsticks. We had some problems with the triggering in the beginning. After some messing around with the sensors themselves they started misbehaving. After we fixed them we needed to figure out the correct materials and especially, the correct layering of materials.

We figured out that the best layering is the following: The base wood (the asteroid belt) then some foamy stuff we bought, with a cutout for the piezo. Then an optional piece of wood with the rubber mat on top. Or the rubber mat on top directly. This seemed to trigger the best. We still need to test it in the correct shape and size and decide the sweet spot with tolerance.

Sponsor run 3.0

Today we went back to our potentiol sponsors. Kaj’s guitar store agreed to sponsor us! Van Weersel wanted to but appearantly there is no mention or information to be found on our project whatsoever. We are not even an entry on the enschede promotions agenda. Which is very odd. Once we send her a link with the mention of us in Enschede promotions she agreed to join us. We made some nice formal invoices and send them to our sponsors as well.

We also bought some of the materials we needed for the drumpads and a pair of drumsticks.

Update: The information appearantly was somewehere, just very hard to find. Van Weersel agreed to sponsor us!

2D Planet Designs I

Today I made two 2D planet designs. I started with the two stores we still need to push over the edge for the sponsoring. Because of this I put a little more effort in making it a true ‘picture’ rather than concept sketches for the designs.

I also revised and changed our entire scrum board according to Yvens’ feedback. It should be way more clear and useful now.

Sponsor Run 2.0

Today Jay-Cee and I went on a second sponsor gathering trip. This time we were armed with a plan and an updated one-pager. We went to our own store to update Petrushka on our plan and installation as well. When we did that, we got a small sponsorship put of that as well. We also went to artez, wilmink theater and metropool. Which unfortunately were either closed or not able to sponsor us.

We did spark a lot of interest in Kaj’s guitar store and Weersel music. We are going back there next tuesday to discuss it more, with the owners.

Marketing content creation I

Now that we have a marketing plan content has to be created. I drew a concept surface of a ‘planet of sound’. This might be used later on but is more for concepting purposes.

Apart from that I made a background planet to assist the planets from the banner in a new marketing video that Oyvind is working on.

For the second video we need an animation of someone walking on the surface of one of the sound planets. So I made an animation we can use.
